When you and your family are looking for a home, there are many factors to keep in mind before you make the final decision to purchase the house you’ve been eyeing.  While it’s easy to fall in love with several houses

that you may look it, it is essential that you take the needs of your family into consideration.  Let’s look at a few things to add to your checklist when you are house hunting to help you choose the right home for your needs.

Figure out the right size.  Factor in how many people are going to live in the house and for how long.  Make sure the house is big enough to accommodate everyone, but not so large that it becomes a bother to take care of.

Consider the renovation potential.  If you are buying a used home, consider if you want to remodel or renovate it.  Do you see yourself hiring a contractor to knock down walls, tear up the kitchen or bathroom, and redesign the floorplan?  If you can answer yes to these questions, then you have probably found the right home for you.

Envision living in the house.  Walk around and imagine what your furniture will look like once you’ve moved in.  Visualize painting the walls a fresh new color.  Pretend you are cooking a holiday meal in the kitchen and see if it’s sufficient for all of your cooking needs.  Walk around the property and envision the deck or yard filled with patio furniture and the kid’s toys.

Try not to get too emotionally attached when you look at a house.  Step back, walk around it, ask hard questions to the agent about the condition of the house, and always get it inspected.
